TextEdit has a very simple outlining mode, perfect for jotting down quick notes with a bit of structure. To activate it, hit ⌥ + ⇥ while editing an RTF document.
Textedit doesn’t always get the credit it deserves. There are so many features that most people don’t use because they bought Office without realizing what they already had. Textedit could open .Docx files before Word for Mac could. Seriously.
